Everyone knows that spring and autumn are good seasons for decoration, but the weather is cold in winter, so many people subconsciously think that "winter is not suitable for decoration." In fact, as long as more attention is paid during the construction process, decoration can also be done in winter.

What we are talking about today is: the issues that need to be paid attention to when laying ceramic tiles during winter decoration. I hope it can help all owners and friends to successfully complete the decoration construction even in the cold winter.

1. The construction temperature should not be too low

The on-site temperature during indoor decoration construction should generally not be lower than 5°C. Otherwise, the adhesion between the cement mortar and the tiles will be reduced, which will directly affect the effect of the tiles. If the temperature is too low on a terrace or unenclosed balcony, it is not recommended to do any construction.

2. Avoid mixing ice cubes when mixing cement mortar

The sand must be sieved carefully and no ice cubes should be included in it. When there is a difference in temperature, some antifreeze can be added appropriately. When mixing the mortar, the temperature of the water should not exceed 80°C. (Note: The main component of antifreeze is nitrite. This substance is harmful to the human body and will cause poisoning if taken in too much at one time. Therefore, try not to use antifreeze if you can. If the temperature is above 0°, do not use it.

3. Soak the tiles before laying

In winter, tiles must be soaked in water before being laid, and the moisture must be saturated. Only in this way, the tiles will not become hollow or fall off due to the absorption of cement mortar water by the tiles, resulting in weak bonding with the cement.

4. Adapt to the indoor temperature

Tiles fromWhen moving outdoors to indoors, due to the large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors in winter, it takes 24 hours for the tiles to adapt to the indoor temperature before they can be laid.

5. Conduct trial paving before construction

Although today's products are all mechanized production, there is no guarantee that the size and color of each tile will be completely uniform. In order to avoid this situation, it is extremely important to test the ceramic tiles before construction. Several products can be randomly selected and placed on the ground for non-adhesive trial paving. The joints can be adjusted between 2~3mm during paving. After trial paving, check whether there is obvious color difference, size deviation, and whether the gaps between bricks are straight. , whether the chamfering is uniform, etc., if satisfactory results cannot be achieved, the laying should be stopped and the merchant should be contacted in time.

6. Leave seams reasonably

When laying ceramic tiles, do not use seam-free paving in pursuit of beauty. If the ceramic tiles are laid too tightly and densely, it will easily leave hidden dangers in the future. Since the thermal expansion and contraction coefficients of the base layer, the adhesive layer and the tiles themselves are very different, under the damage of hot and cold tension for 1-2 years, over-density paving can easily cause problems such as bulging and breakage of the tiles. Moreover, the cost of re-laying will be 4 times more expensive than the first time. Especially when laying ceramic tiles in the cold winter, you need to consider how to leave reasonable gaps to avoid all kinds of trouble when summer comes.

7. Point out in time

In order to avoid the "thermal expansion" effect in the coming spring and summer, reasonable seams should be left when laying ceramic tiles, and joints should be made promptly after laying to avoid slurry absorption during bonding, which will lead to cement contact. The bond is not strong.

8. Ensure indoor temperature and humidity

If the work surface for laying ceramic tiles is frozen in winter, it willThe way to prevent hollow drums is to ensure a certain indoor temperature and humidity.

9. Pay attention when installing floor tiles on the wall

Nowadays, there are many floor tiles for wall decoration. However, due to the relatively low water absorption of floor tiles, traditional cement mortar is used to lay them. Due to insufficient stickiness, the laid tiles will hollow out and fall off. In order to solve this problem, adhesives and tile adhesives are generally used for paving.

Winter is cold. The same tile adhesive product feels less sticky when touched in winter than in summer. Why does this illusion occur?
Let’s first understand that the tile adhesive in winter is not as sticky to the touch as in summer. Ceramic tile adhesive (liquid type) does not stick in winter. This is actually an illusion.
Reasons:
1. Personal form sticky

Different body temperatures and different tactile sensations will affect the feeling of touch. Especially in winter, the touch of cold hands changes, causing the feeling to be non-sticky
In winter, because the human body responds more slowly to temperature changes in all aspects than in summer, it is unscientific to only use touch to determine the decrease in product viscosity. In addition, if there is water on the hands of the master, the product will not feel sticky when the hands are wet.

2. Due to changes in temperature

Products will naturally change. The same goes for adhesives. But this does not affect the quality.

3. The thickness of the adhesive

If you apply it more casually and lightly. Because the amount of paint applied is too small, it will naturally feel non-sticky and even seriously affect the bonding effect. So the tiles must be even on the wall.

When laying tiles in winter, different issues need to be paid attention to when laying tiles in different areas:

1. Things to note when laying floor tiles

1. The release agent on the back of the ceramic tile must be removed before use;
2. Kitchen,The bathroom should have a water flow slope so that no water accumulates or returns. If the original waterproof layer is damaged during construction, the waterproofing treatment must be redone, and the accumulated water must be tested for at least 24 hours without leakage;
3. After the floor tiles are laid, cover the tile surface with cardboard, etc., and wait at least 24 hours before walking on the tile surface.

2. Things to note when laying wall tiles

1. When treating the base layer, all dirt on the wall should be cleaned and watered one day in advance. If the base layer is a new wall, when the cement mortar is 70% dry, bricks should be laid out, wires should be stretched, and wall bricks should be pasted;
2. Before pasting, the ceramic tiles must be soaked in clean water for more than 2 hours, as long as the brick body does not bubble, and the release agent on the back of the ceramic tiles must be removed, and taken out to dry for later use;
3. When paving and gluing, when encountering pipelines, light switches, and bathroom equipment supports, they must be cut and matched with whole bricks. It is prohibited to use non-whole bricks to patch and paste them.
